Cambodia Sees China’s Robotics and AI Leadership as Opportunity for ASEAN Digital Transformation

Cambodia has identified China’s rapid progress in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart manufacturing as a valuable model for accelerating digital transformation and strengthening technological cooperation between ASEAN and China.

The observation was made during a visit by ASEAN delegates to SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading robotics and intelligent manufacturing companies, as part of the 2026 ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province.

China’s Smart Manufacturing Model Draws ASEAN Interest

During the visit, participants were introduced to a range of advanced automation technologies, intelligent production systems, and robotics solutions that have helped transform China’s manufacturing sector.

Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Information and Head of the Secretariat of the International Affairs Coordination Committee, said the technologies demonstrated how China has successfully evolved from conventional manufacturing toward a highly digitalized and innovation-driven industrial ecosystem.

According to him, the true value lies not only in the robots themselves but in the seamless integration of artificial intelligence, automation, sensors, data analytics, and connected production systems.

Intelligent Automation Driving Efficiency and Quality

Mr. Thaveak Amida noted that advanced manufacturing technologies have the potential to significantly improve operational efficiency, reduce repetitive manual tasks, enhance workplace safety, and deliver more consistent product quality.

He emphasized that intelligent automation should be viewed as a complement to human labor rather than a replacement for workers. By leveraging technology effectively, businesses can boost productivity while creating new opportunities for economic development and innovation.

Lessons for Cambodia’s Digital Economy Goals

Cambodia sees China’s experience in industrial modernization as a useful reference point as the country works toward building a stronger digital economy and digitally connected society.

The Cambodian official said exposure to emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, and smart manufacturing can help support national priorities including workforce development, vocational education, industrial upgrading, and digital skills training.

As Cambodia seeks to increase competitiveness in a technology-driven global economy, knowledge sharing and technology transfer will play an increasingly important role in future growth strategies.

Expanding ASEAN-China Cooperation in Technology and Innovation

Beyond industrial applications, Mr. Thaveak Amida highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration between ASEAN member states and China across several strategic areas.

Potential areas of cooperation include digital literacy programs, innovation partnerships, artificial intelligence applications in public communications and media, technology education initiatives, and youth-focused skills development programs.

He noted that the visit provided valuable insights into China’s technological capabilities while also opening discussions on future ASEAN-China partnerships focused on innovation-led and sustainable economic growth.

Digital Cooperation Gains Momentum Under Strategic Partnership

The visit comes as ASEAN and China continue to strengthen collaboration under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with growing emphasis on digital connectivity, technological innovation, industrial modernization, and human capital development.

As both sides pursue deeper economic integration, emerging technologies are expected to become a key pillar of regional cooperation and long-term development.

SIASUN: A Pioneer in China’s Robotics Industry
